University Mozarteum Salzburg
Around 2000 musicians, actors, visual artists, musicologists, and music and art pedagogues teach or study at the University Mozarteum. The new building at Mirabellplatz has rapidly become a meeting point for artists and ideas. Luciano Berio, Friedrich Cerha, George Crumb, Franco Donatoni, Helmut Eder, Hans Werner Henze, Maurizio Kagel, György Kurtàg, Alfred Schnittke, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Gerhard Wimberger and many other leading musicians of the time have taught at the Mozarteum as permanent or guest lecturers. Renowned contemporary composers are responsible for the students’ education at the Mozarteum. Not only versed in classical music, they also develop a close relationship with contemporary music.
In recent years the Mozarteum has introduced more contemporary music, amalgamating these elements into the new Institute for Contemporary Music, founded in 2006.
